Dr. Nachman Brautbar is a board-certified internist and nephrologist, with a specialization in toxicology. His list of past and present academic appointments include: Associate Professor of Pharmacology and Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Southern California, School of Medicine. He specializes in the toxicological and internal medicine aspects of injury in the workplace, product liability, personal injury, standard of care. He has published 240 journal manuscripts, abstracts and book chapters in the fields of internal medicine, nephrology, and toxicology.

Statements issued by the Collegium reflect the official orientation of this academic body on topics of major interest in the field of environmental and occupational health. These orientations are adopted in full independence and are exclusively based on scientific knowledge and on ethical principle. The Collegium Ramazzini has previously issued Statements on: 1) Benzidine and its Salts (1984); 2) Benzene (1993); Chrysotile Asbestos (1993); 4) Oxygenated and Reformulated Gasolines (1994); 5) 1,3-Butadiene (1995); and 6) Call for a Ban on Asbestos (1999). Dr. Brautbar is available to examine patients, review records and provide medical and forensic opinion, and also for consultation. He has been the lead expert in toxic exposures, product liability and standard of care cases throughout the country. Dr. Brautbar is a practicing physician. Dr. Brautbar's practice covers aspects of Internal Medicine, Nephrology, and Toxicology, such as lung disease, asbestosis, chemical injury, solvent-related toxicity, and occupational diseases. Dr. Brautbar has worked with the Plaintiff and Defense. Dr. Brautbar has testified as an expert witness in toxic torts, product liability cases and medical negligence, and frequently serves as a consultant on national and international levels. He has been a visiting professor in national and international scientific institutions and centers such as Yale, Harvard, and Czechoslovakia National Institute of Health. Dr. Brautbar has lectured to State Court Judges at the National Judicial College in Reno in 1998 on the topic of causation and science in the courtroom.
